Welcome, Stone Girl! Also, Obsessed Much?

Firstly, let me extend a laurel and hearty handshake to Stone Girl (aka my girl Wolftrax), in welcome to the world of journalifying life. Or blogging. Or verbal internet spewing. Whatever you'd like to call it. Anyway, she's here and her words are totally money. Go read. Link's up there. Go now. I'll wait. Though, once you get over there and read her stuff, you may not want to come back.

In other news...

When I saw this meme over at Miss Zoot's, I simply could not resist. Well, if you've been reading long, you know I don't resist many memes. However, this one seemed perfect.

I've been told most of my life that I have an obsessive personality. To the point where I actually asked my therapist about OCD. She doesn't think that I'm OCD, though she does think I'm a perfectionist, which is kind of related. I'm definitely an all-or-nothing kind of person. When something catches my fancy, I immerse myself, like leaping feet-first into a crystal-blue lake and letting the water surround me. When I was younger, I'd buy all the paraphernalia, learn any related songs, read any related books, and generally live, breathe and think about my new fixation.

Time has mellowed that out somewhat. Though, not completely. Heh.

Things I've Been Obsessed With Throughout My Life

Toddlerhood (up to age 5)

* Sesame Street

* Reading. According to my folks, I started reading very early, and this is one obsession that hasn't faded.

Childhood (age 5-9)

* Tanya Tucker

* Cats (another lifelong love)

* Insect collecting, especially butterflies and moths. (yes, I was a weird kid. Shattup.)

* Star Wars. The original, bitches. None of this Episode 1-3 crapola. I was 5 when A New Hope hit the theaters.

* School supplies. Y'all thought I was kidding when I said I was a giant nerd? Joke's on you now, huh? What can I say? I *loved* new pencils, new notebooks, new folders. Still do, really. I just can't justify buying them anymore. But. Wait until Kidlet starts going to school, mwa ha ha. "Mommy, I don't think I need 43 boxes of pencils?" "Heck yes you do. Now go get us another cart. This one's full."

Pre-Teen (ages 9 to 12)

* John Schneider and David Hasselhoff. I watched "Dukes of Hazzard" and "Knight Rider" faithfully, every Friday night.

* Still with the Star Wars. To this day, even.

* Movie soundtracks, on vinyl.

* Playing the violin.

* Books, still.

Early Teens (age 13 to 16)

* More Star Wars

* 80s music. Because it was, like, the 80s. Especially Duran Duran.

* Days of Our Lives

* Turquoise jewelery

* One boy in particular, who shall remain nameless here, on whom I had a 5-year crush.

* Writing. About this time is when I really started to roll. If I had a good story I was working on, I'd sit in school and write on it while I was supposed to be listening to the teacher lecture about algebra or history or some shit. School was boring! It was either entertain myself with fantasy fiction of my own devising, or light my shoe on fire.

Late Teens (age 16-20)

* Depeche Mode

* Star Trek: The Next Generation. It was during this time that I was a hard-core fan. I collected just about anything you can imagine that was affiliated with the franchise. I still love the whole Star Trek universe, I'm just not as thunderstruck as I once was.

* Sci-Fi of all stripes. And I wrote a ton of my own really bad android romances. Don't ask. And no, I'm not posting them.

* Bowling

Early 20s to Present Day

* Harry Potter, with Snape as my muse

* A variety of movie, tv and music personalities, including but not restricted to: David Duchovny, Christian Slater, Brent Spiner, Hugh Jackman, and John Cusack.

* The Barenaked Ladies. Love them.

* Buffy and Angel

* Paranormal Mystery-Romance novels, like the works of Laurell K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan, and the like.

* Figure Skating. I belonged to the Christopher Bowman Fan Club for several years.

* Fairies and Angels

* Inferno. Especially aerians. My aerian, Alaena, in particular.

I'm sure there's a million little ones that I'm forgetting. It didn't take much for me to get absorbed by something, and I loved that rush of finding a new love, a new fixation. I still do. Some of the obsessions, as noted, are still alive and well today, a million-kajillion years later. And loves like reading and writing, I think I'll likely take to my grave.

And that, as they say, is that.
