My Dead Soulmate/Friday's Feast

Okay, I just took this "Dead Celebrity Soul Mate" quiz, over at the Biography.com site, and they matched me up with either 1) Edgar Allen Poe, 2) Vincent Van Gogh, or 3) Rudolph Valentino. Holy cow, what a trio. Once you answer the little questionnaire, they give you the three "matches" and you get to pick, so of course I picked Rudolph, because, hi, I'm not into depressed alcoholics or crazy ear-loppers. Yes, they were both brilliant and unmatched artists in their mediums, but god. Probably not good dates, I'm thinking. And what does it say about me that my soul matches up with the crazy and the depressed and the alcoholic.

Yeah, I didn't like the way that was going. So, I went with vain and promiscuous. Score!

And now, a new feature. Friday's Feast --

Appetizer
Name a song you know by heart.

I know so many songs by heart that if I were to try and list them, I'd be here for a week. Everything from "The Alphabet Song" to practically the entire Barenaked Ladies' discography. I sing so much at work, to whatever comes on whichever radio station we're listening to, I've had coworkers ask me, "Do you know EVERY song?" Now, whether they're asking me that out of curiosity or frustration that I won't shut up, is anyone's guess. However, I've asked around and no one seems to mind that I sing. I love to sing, but I don't want to be insufferably annoying.

I love songs, and lyrics, and music in general. I love songs that tell a story, especially. So, with that in mind, I'll post some lyrics here from probably one of the most hauntingly, beautifully sad story songs ever.

It's the mood I'm in.

Whiskey Lullaby - Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss

"She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart, he spent his whole life tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
Until the night

1st Chorus
He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said I'll love her till I die
And when we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby...

The rumors flew but nobody know how much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain away a little at a time
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind
Until the night

2nd Chorus
She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away his memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees
We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby..."

Soup
What will you absolutely not do in front of another person?

I would say "use the bathroom", but my toddler likes to come in and keep me company, so that doesn't really work, does it?

Salad
How often do you use mouthwash and what kind do you like?

I only really use mouthwash when I've been eating something so potent it would strip paint off a barn. Heavily-garlicked pizza, or really strong onions, something along those lines. Then, I tend to use Scope, just because it's what I grew up with. Occasionally, I'll use Listerine, but only if I have sore gums or a canker sore or something.

Main Course
Finish this sentence: I am embarrassed when...

... other people do embarrassing things. It's part of my empathy, I guess.

Dessert
What was the last food you craved?

Tomatoes, because someone brought in a boxful of homegrown cherry tomatoes to work and I was snacking on them in between sample sets. So, when I got home, I had a bowl of tomatoes and they were very tasty.

Um. The end!
