Pre-NaNo Randomness
Happy Halloween, everybody! Here's hoping that your costume is good enough that the evil spirits can't find you, and that you have just enough snack-sized candy bars left over after the trick-or-treaters have come and gone that you feel happy and sated on sugar but not bloated and sick.
How's THAT for an autumnal blessing, hm? And now, let's make with the randomness!
I saw a winter gift set on sale, the other day while out shopping, and said set included a fuzzy hat, a scarf, and a pair of gloves. It said, plainly on the packaging, "Three Piece Set". Now, putting aside the immediate image in the head of a KFC meal with biscuit (... just me, then? Alrighty!), unless you're including only one glove, wouldn't that be a "Four Piece Set"? Either way, the manufacturer loses because 1) they look like morons because they can't count, or 2) they look greedy because they're only selling one glove per set and you have to pay for two sets just to get a full set of gloves. Yeah, I know, 1) seems more likely, though I've learned not to discount 2).

Today at work was one of those days that many scientists recoil from. It was a Day That The Instrument Won't Calibrate. Yeah. See? If you're a scientist, or if you have a scientist read those words, they'll draw back from the screen, scowling, all, "Aw, damn. That's... that's so... WRONG! And FRUSTRATING!"
Yeah.
Especially when it's Halloween, which is normally a fun and festive day for me. I came to work in my witch's hat, my obnoxiously-bright orange shirt with shiny-and-besequened pumpkins on it, and my black and purple socks with the orange pumpkin bells on them. This is not an outfit one wears if one has to beat their figurative head against the anti-calibration wall. This is a happy outfit, deserving of tasty coffee and yummy candy treats, and foot rubs. So, fie on you, instrument! Fie on your non-calibrated status. Phooey!
Oh, well. At least we had a work potluck today. I brought veggies and dip, as I usually do, to try and help counteract the plates of desserts and piles of fatty carbs that most people favor. Not that those things don't taste good, y'all, because they totally do. But you know what? So do baby carrots dipped in cucumber-feta dip. Call me weird if you want.

And, since this is Halloween, y'all know what tomorrow is?
If you are not aware of that which I speak, go click on the link and check it out. If you like to write, at all, or if you've ever wanted to write a book and need the motivation, NaNoWriMo can be so much fun. This will be my third year at this, and I've been looking forward to it since last year.
And on that note, I have to go finish putting some touches on my plot outline before midnight rolls around...
