50... er, 47 Odd Things
Tonight, I'll be leaning on the online writer's *other* crutch (besides the writing prompt -- the meme/survey! This one comes to you from all over the internet, and it's originally titled "50 Odd Things About Me", but it's more like 47 things, since people take out/abstain from responding to certain questions. I actually tried to track down a list of all 50 questions, just out of curiosity, but I couldn't find one.
How... odd.
(See what I did there?! I, you know... see there...? Oh, never mind.)
And feel free to steal this and put it on your own journal, or email it around. If you email it, I want to see it.
So...
47 Odd Things About... Me!
1. Height?
Five feet, one inch. Sixty-one inches of obnoxiousness in a loosely-wrapped package... mwa ha ha.
2. Have you ever smoked heroin?
Ah, that would be a 'no'.
3. Do you own a gun?
I think I have a glue gun around here, someplace, with my beads and my bag of fabric scraps that I had grand ideas for and did nothing with.
5. Do you get nervous before "meeting the parents?"
Not particularly. Meeting people doesn't really make me nervous, generally, unless they're trying to convert me to their religion or something.
6. What do you think of hot dogs?
Hot dogs are one of those foods that I eat occasionally, and I might even enjoy them at the time, but I always feel gross afterwards. Even when I was a kid. And I always have to coat them with a ton of mustard and pickle relish.
7. What's your favorite Christmas song?
Modern: "God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen" by the Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan
Traditional: It's a toss up between "O Holy Night" and "What Child is This?", I think.
8. What do you prefer to drink in the morning?
Coffee, please! Very strong, with a little 1% milk.
9. Can you do push ups?
Uhh. Kind of? I can do about 20 modified push ups (from the knee), but only about 4 standard push ups. My upper body strength has always been horrible, though my legs are pretty strong.
10. Is your bathroom clean?
Uhh. Kind of? It's been recently wiped down, towels replaced and all that, but since it's so small, it gets really cluttered with clothes and toys and, ahem, reading material. Mostly Kidlet's, since she's using the potty now -- she's got a big stack of books in there.
11. What's your favorite piece of jewelry?
Ooh, this is a hard one. I have so many pieces that have sentimental value. The one that comes immediately to mind, though, is the pink topaz pendant that is Kidlet's birthstone.
12. Do you like painkillers?
Not usually. My system reacts very strongly (well?) to medications, so it doesn't take much to knock my ass for a loop, or blow right past "pleasantly stoned" to "holy crap, I'm going to barf". I don't like trying to get through the day being groggy or out of it, considering I work with chemicals and instrumentation/machinery for a living. In fact, the only time I welcomed painkillers with open arms and, continue to praise their properties and powers to this day, was (big surprise) when I was in labor.
13. What is your secret weapon to lure in the opposite sex?
Bwa! Bwa ha ha ha! Funny!
14. Do you have A.D.D?
No. There's plenty of things wrong with me, but this isn't one of them.
16. Middle Name?
Arlene
17. Name 3 thoughts at this exact moment?
I'm tired, I hope Kidlet's sleeping well, I wish there was something decent on television.
18. Name the last 3 things you have bought.
3 twelve packs of soda for today's pizza party at work, diapers, 1% milk
19. Name 3 drinks you regularly drink:
Coffee (decaf or regular, depending on time of day), water, diet Coke (also decaf or regular)
20. Name something cool you can do.
Crochet a scarf in an evening
21. Current celebrity crush?
Lewis Black, because he makes me laugh, and I need more laughter in my life.
22. Current worry?
That I'll fall asleep before I finish this list.
23. Current hate?
Headaches. Actually, that's a constant hate, but I've had some real ringers lately.
24. Favorite place to be?
Near Kidlet. Playing with her, talking with her, watching Spongebob with her. Wherever she is.
25. Least favorite place to be?
In my head, when it's all dark and swirly and pulling me down into the pit.
26. Where would you like to go?
I hear Mars is nice this time of year. Kind of brisk, temperature-wise, but that keeps the tourists away.
27. Do you own slippers?
Like, 5 pair. I like slippers, and I often get them as gifts.
28. What shirt are you wearing?
A burgundy cotton shirt with long sleeves.
29. Do you burn or tan?
Burn, down to the bone, practically. I do freckle, but if I'm out in the sun for any length of time, even with sunscreen on, I always get pink, at least.
30. Favorite color(s)?
Purples and blues.
31. Would you be a pirate?
Nah. A life with few rules does appeal, but I like showers and unspoiled food too much.
33. What songs do you sing in the shower?
As much as I love to sing, I tend not to sing in the shower. Usually, I just take a fast shower and get out.
34. What did you fear was going to get you at night, as a child?
Everything. One of the downsides of having an imagination is being able to see the largest and deadliest of monsters in the smallest shadow. Also, I once had a dream, when I was a kid, about a spider crawling up the wall next to my bed to bite me that was so vivid that I slept on the outside edge of my bed until I was, like, 25.
35. What's in your pockets right now?
No pockets in these pants.
36. Last person that made you laugh?
Kidlet.
37. Best bed sheets as a child?
Star Wars, of course.
38. Worst injury you've ever had?
Probably when I fell off my bike, at age 8, and skidded down a very steep, paved hill on my knee and elbow. I have black, asphalt-imbued scars from that ordeal to this day, some 27 years later.
39. What's on your calendar?
Birthday reminders and doctor appointments, mostly.
40. How many TVs do you have in your house?
Three, but one's an extra and isn't used for anything.
41. Who is your loudest friend?
Loudest... speaking? Laughing? Yelling? I think that most of them can be loud when they want to or need to be.
42. Who is your most silent friend?
Same as 41. Because my friends are flexible like that.
43. Does someone have a crush on you?
Not that I am aware of.
44. Do you wish on shooting stars?
You bet! I saw one last night, strangely enough, and I immediately wished on it. Couldn't hurt, and might help, I figure.
45. What is your favorite book?
Oh, gods, there's no possible way I could narrow it down to one book. I have an entire library of books I reread on a regular basis, because they make me feel good or they're interesting.
46. What is your favorite candy?
Reese's cups, probably. The mini cups are the best.
47. What song do/did you want played at your wedding?
Did. "Beautiful in my Eyes" by Joshua Kadison
48. What song do you want played at your funeral?
Hee. No sappy-ass songs for me. I want "Having a Blast" by Green Day. Here's a sample of the lyrics:
"I'm taking all you down with me
Explosive duct taped to my spine
Nothing's gonna change my mind
I won't listen to anyone's last words
There's nothind left for you to say
Soon you'll be dead anyway..."
And I want a mosh pit. Just because.
49. What were you doing 12 AM last night
Er. Um. I'm supposed to remember back that far? Uh... probably not sleeping, when I should have been.
How's that for vague?
50. What was the first thing you thought of when you woke up this morning?
"It's only Tuesday? Damn it."
