What Is This 'TV' You Speak Of?
After reading Stone Girl's latest entry about who she thinks should win at the Golden Globe Awards on Monday, I thought, "Hey, I'll make up my own list!"
Except, well. I've seen exactly three (3) movies in the theater this year: 1) "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" in January, which was actually the second time I'd seen it, and it also came out in 2005 and wouldn't even be in the running for any awards this year, 2) "Curious George", which, while adorable, is nominated for not a thing, and 3) "Dreamgirls", about two weeks ago. It is actually nominated for some stuff, but as I haven't seen any of its competitors, I can't actually state a preference for one over the other. I could certainly say that I think Jennifer Hudson was wonderful as Effie, but whether she was better in her movie than Cate Blanchett was in *her* movie, I have absolutely no freaking clue.
And as for TV... well, I know I've mentioned it on here before, but I don't really watch TV. I don't mean that as in some kind of moral-high-ground, TV-is-the-root-of-all-evil way, but more simply, I just don't like anything that's on currently enough to tune back in every week, in any kind of repeat fashion. For instance, I watched the first three episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" when it first aired, and then decided I didn't care. Meredith just... bothered me. Besides that, there's the fact that Patrick Dempsey will always be the lawn-mowing geek from "Can't Buy Me Love" to me, and no amount of weight-lifting or hair gel can McDreamy him out of that image's strangle-hold.
Granted, there are many shows I haven't bothered to view, even one episode, so I suppose I'm not really qualified to say I don't like them, per se. But also, I don't really feel compelled to rectify this situation. So, while I might wonder to myself if "24" or "CSI: Pick A City" is as good as everybody says it is, I never remember to actually check when it's on. So, to me, that means that I don't really care enough to find out. Make sense?
And really, I like TV. I've had several favorite shows over the years. But lately, my viewing consists of 1) whatever Kidlet's watching, which means Spongebob, Dora/Diego, Sesame Street, Blue's Clues, Teletubbies and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. (And no, she doesn't watch all that, every day. It's just a list of what she may be watching at a given time.), 2) NFL games, though with football season ending soon, this will go away until September, or 3) whatever's on Com. Central or the cooking channel, that I can have going in the background while I read a book or write.
So, really-long-story not very short, making a list of my Golden Globe winners would be pretty futile. Except if Spongebob was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical Series. Then, I might have something to say.
