Sleeptime Survey

Some of y'all might remember last year at this time, when my mother's affection for the craptacular crapfest known otherwise as "American Idol" was foisted upon my delicate sensibilities, due to our small house and no means to escape that didn't involve hanging out in the 30 degree garage with the black widows or shoving barbeque forks in my ears.

Well, guess what's on the tv right now? Come on, guess!

Yeah. My mother has failed to develop some television taste between last year and this one. And I simply don't understand the appeal of this show, I really don't. I'm not saying that as a bitter "I'm over the age limit and I wish I could audition DAMN IT". I'm not saying it as someone who hopes that my snarking on it is cool. I'm saying it as someone who looks at the screen and sees how completely contrived all this is, how fake this stuff has to be. They've probably already chosen the winner, and the whole season is just an elaborate mindscrew.

Ugh. If you liked my take on last year's schlock, stay tuned.

In football playoff news, the Football Goddess must have gone out for a beer at the moment that the Patriots won. I was really, really rooting for San Diego, for a variety of reasons. I have a good friend who is a Chargers fan, for one. I'm not especially fond of New England, for another.

Oh, well. There's still Indy they have to answer to. Here's hoping, anyway.

And, since it's getting on towards bedtime now, here's a Bedtime Survey that I was emailed.

Enjoy!

::Pre-Bed Warmups::

What are your Pajamas?

Right now? I'm totally rocking these neon green/white/periwinkle blue flannel PJs. They are so comfortable, and so warm. I know, I know... sex-ay!

Is your door open or shut?

Shut.

Nightlight?

Yes, but not for me.

Did you ever believe in under-the-bed monsters?

Not really, because I had so much other crap shoved under my bed when I was a kid that there wasn't room for monsters. But... beside the bed monsters and inside the shoe monsters and lurking in the curve of a shadow monsters? Absolutely.

Closet monsters?

Yeah, those, too.

Ever wet the bed?

Not that I recall.

Anything quirky you do before you hop into bed?

I guess that depends on what you consider 'quirky'. I check on my kid, do some stretching, check my alarm clock. None of that is too horribly weird.

::In the Middle of the Night::

What position to you fall asleep in?

I'm most comfortable curled up with my left side on the mattress.

Do you fall asleep right away?

I used to. Not so much anymore.

Do you get up in the middle of the night for any reason?

Yes. Nature calling, thirsty, too hot or noises my kid makes are usually the culprits. For instance, last night I heard a 'thunk!' and I thought that Kidlet had fallen out of her bed, so I jumped up to go check, and saw that she had just kicked a book out of bed. But then I was up for a little while after that.

Do you move around?

Somewhat.

Snore?

Only when I'm having sinus issues.

Talk?

Occasionally.

Kick?

Not that I've heard.

Wet the Bed?

What is this survey's preoccupation with wetting the bed. No.

Do you snuggle up with someone at night?

Kidlet, after she gets into bed with me.

Do you usually dream?

Yes.

And remember them?

Most of the time.

If people call in the middle of the night, do you answer?

Yes, because my mother drilled into me that the only reason people call after 11p, if you're not expecting them to, is because someone died or is in the hospital. And so far, she's been right.

Do you get scared from nightmares?

Not so much scared, anymore, though I used to have some hum-dingers.

Do you sleep on top, in between, or beneath the sheets?

In between, I suppose. The fitted sheet is under me, the top sheet on top, so that's between, right?

And, with that logic, who sleeps beneath the fitted sheet? That'd be damn weird.

Have you slept under the sheets, but woken up with them tossed off of you?

Oh, sure. If it's hot, I'll move bedding around.

Have you ever fallen asleep with clothes on, but woke up with some off?

All the time. The older I get, the colder my feet are when I get ready for bed. Most of the time, I go to bed with socks on, and wake up in the morning with them off. Then I find them, when I change my sheets, stuffed down near the end of my bed. That's always fun.

Do you snuggle with a body pillow?

Nah.

Any stuffed animals you sleep with?

Not these days.

Do you sleep with the fan on? When it's hot, absolutely. No A/C in this house, and I feel like I'm suffocating with no air movement.

::The Next Day::

What position do you wake up in?

Depends. Usually on one side or the other.

Is this different from your original sleeping one?

Sometimes.

What time do you usually wake up?

7a-ish during the week. 8-9a on weekends.

What time did you go to bed?

Usually in the vicinity of midnight.

Have you ever woken up earlier than 5 AM?

Only if 1) Kidlet needed to be fed when she was an infant or 2) I had an early flight to someplace. (I'm not counting waking up for a minute to get a drink or check on the girl and then going back to sleep.)

What's the first thing you do when you wake up?

Wish I had another two hours to sleep.

Are you colder in the morning than you were at night?

Usually not.

Do you drink coffee to wake you up?

Not necessarily to wake me up, since my first cup is decaf, but it's definitely an integral part of the morning ritual.

Do you talk when you first wake up?

Only if forced.

Are you a morning person?

Hell. No. Ma'am. I'm about as UN-morning person as you can get without involving firearms and duct tape.

Do you get on Myspace in the morning?

Uh. No.

Do you have an early job/class?

Early, like 8a? I consider that early, so I will answer yes.

What's the best breakfast food? Peanut butter toast

McDonald's or Starbucks in the morning? Are we talking coffee? Starbucks tastes better, but McDonald's is way cheaper. Food? I don't eat fast food breakfasts, because they're nasty and usually involve egg and/or sausage in some fashion. So, Starbucks wins that one.
